Lynne Layton Internship Award applications open through September 16

The Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program is excited to open the Lynne Layton Internship Award applications for Fall of 2019.  This award offers support for students who are engaged in the study of women, gender, and sexuality, and are interested in working with Pittsburgh non-profit organizations that offer community support and engagement opportunities in the field of GSWS. Internship sites will vary and will be arranged through the GSWS program.

Julian Gill-Peterson wins Lambda Literary Awards Prize in Transgender Nonfiction

Julian Gill-Peterson, assistant professor of English and GSWS affiliated faculty member, received top honors in the category of Transgender Nonfiction during the 31st Annual Lambda Literacy Awards in June.

GSWS doctoral certificate students win Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Fellowship in Women's Studies for a second year in a row

GSWS doctoral certificate student Hillary Ash from the Department of Communication has been awarded a Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Fellowship in Women's Studies 2019 for her dissertation,  Defining a Crisis: the Rhetorical Exclusion of Women in the United States’ AIDS Epidemic, 1982-1993.

Congratulations to Madi Scull, who successfully defended their Bachelor of Philosophy thesis, "Barriers, Boundaries, and Borders: An Investigation into Transgender Experiences within Medical Institutions" on April 5, 2019. Graduating this spring from Communication; Sociology; and Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies; Madi is the second Communication major to earn the Bachelor of Philosophy honors degree at Pitt.
