Lynne Layton Internship Award for Spring 2020

The Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program is excited to open the Lynn Layton award applications for Spring of 2020.  This award offers support for students who are engaged in the study of women, gender, and sexuality, and are interested in working with Pittsburgh non-profit organizations that offer community support and engagement opportunities in the field of GSWS. Internship sites will vary and will be arranged through the GSWS program.

Grad Student María Lis Baiocchi Wins Feminist Anthropology Prize

Congratulations to GSWS grad student María Lis Baiocchi for winning the Association for Feminist Anthropology's 2019 Sylvia Forman Graduate Prize for her paper “The Bargaining Power of Love: Access to Rights, Affective Capital, and the Political Economy of Feelings in Paid Domestic Work in Buenos Aires, Argentina.”  Read more about it here.

Kathryn Fleisher Wins UHC Research Fellowship

Kathryn FleisherKathryn Fleisher, who is double majoring in GSWS and Politics & Philosophy, has been selected for a University Honors College Research Fellowship this semester.  Her advisor for the project is Dr. Jackie Smith (Sociology).   Fleisher will study Pittsburgh’s Multicultural Liaison Unit, which was founded in 2017 to improve the Department of Public Safety’s ability to serve immigrant and refugee communities.

Julian Gill-Peterson wins Lambda Literary Awards Prize in Transgender Nonfiction

Julian Gill-Peterson, assistant professor of English and GSWS affiliated faculty member, received top honors in the category of Transgender Nonfiction during the 31st Annual Lambda Literacy Awards in June.
